Andres Alvarez is responsible for overseeing all domestic and international sales for the newly designed AO Reserve experiences at the Australian Open. His journey with Tennis Australia began in 2013 when he started as a casual tennis coach. Over the past eleven years, Alvarez has held more than nine roles within the organization, eventually earning a place in the senior leadership team at the organization.
Originally from Bucaramanga, Colombia, Alvarez moved to Australia at the age of twenty-two. He arrived with the intention of learning English and pursuing further studies. He vividly recalls the first time he saw Rod Laver Arena from a train and set a personal goal to one day work for the organization. Despite a challenging road, Alvarez feels fortunate to work for an organization that values equality and has a caring culture, where everyone is respected and valued. Throughout his journey, he has been guided by incredible leaders who have continuously challenged him to reach his full potential.
In his role, Alvarez has had the opportunity to meet remarkable individuals and global leaders. He has played tennis with Bill Gates, met world-renowned tennis players and many other sports legends, connected with top CX executives across various industries and more. He also takes pride in leading a diverse and talented team.
A dedicated family man, Alvarez prioritizes his wife, Georgia, and their two daughters, Matilda and Emilia. Having lost his father at a young age, his values of tenacity and sacrifice were instilled by his mother and his nanny, a second maternal figure he holds dear. While some may call him lucky, Alvarez faced over twenty job rejections early in his career. However, he never gave up, embracing his personality and the uniqueness of being a non-native English speaker as a superpower that has fueled his growth and success in every organization he has served.
